US stealth bombers in Diego Garcia, warships in South China Sea, boost morale from Ladakh to Taiwan

With the deployment of three B-2 stealth bombers, capable of carrying nuclear weapons in the Indian Ocean island of Diego Garcia, the United States has given a clear message to China to deter from starting a war in the India-Pacific.In Ladakh on the Indo-China border and in Taiwan, military tensions are showing no signs of abating. The three radar-evading bombers, widely recognised as the most advanced in the world, arrived at Diego Garcia on August 12.By deploying at the Indian Ocean island, which falls under the US Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM), China was being sent an unambiguous signal - that Washington was committed to safeguard the sea lanes of the Indian Ocean, South China Sea and the Pacific Ocean, under well-defined rules.Because of their ultra-long-range endurance, and freedom ...

Taiwan’s Marine force sent to Dongsha Islands to counter China’s plans

In order to counter China’s expansionist policies, Taiwan has dispatched its military to Dongsha Islands which Beijing is planning to invade, according to reports. On August 3, People's Liberation Army (PLA) National Defense University professor Li Daguang was quoted as saying that the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) will stage a landing exercise on China's Hainan Island to simulate an invasion of the Dongsha Islands.Although Li later denied this, claiming he had instead been referring to an article published earlier by Kyodo News.Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense (MND) has been on alert since reports surfaced in May saying the PLA is planning such a mock invasion, with China’s state-run mouthpiece the Global Times warning that it could become a real invasion.CommonWealth Magazine

Taiwan might see immigrant influx from Hong Kong as fear against security law grows

With the new Hong Kong security law in place, there is widespread concern among Hong Kongers with a growing number of them mulling over relocating to Taiwan to protect themselves from the Chinese crackdown. Its proximity and cultural similarities are the main factors which are attracting the people in Hong Kong.In response, the Taiwanese government has opened an office on July 1 to help Hong Kongers who seek legal residency in Taiwan, in anticipation of an influx of immigrants.“The new office was created precisely to more efficiently evaluate and process applications on a case-by-case basis,” said Kolas Yotaka, spokesperson at Taiwan’s presidential office, adding that existing resources are sufficient to handle the possible increase in arrivals.According to the Mainland Affairs Council in T

Using Chinese 5G equipment akin to inviting Trojan horse into system: Taiwan Digital Minister

Taiwan Digital Minister Audrey Tang has asserted that there is no such thing as "pure private companies" in China and that using Chinese equipment in core telecom infrastructure is similar to inviting a Trojan horse into the network."There's no such thing as pure private companies in China. From the perspective of the PRC, the ruling party can change your leader whenever the situation is intense," Audrey Tang, a hacker-turned-cabinet member said."If you include them [China-linked companies] in the infrastructure then you have to be very careful every time you update the system, as that could make the network vulnerable to allowing a Trojan horse inside the system," she said.Audrey’s remarks came as countries around the world are mulling a ban on Chinese company Huwaei from their 5G network

Taiwan busy in preparations against China

Amid heightened tensions with China, Taiwan has launched a five-day long live fire war games exercise in view of the possible infiltration of the former.Chief of General Staff Huang Shu-kuang started the annual drill on July 13 which tests how democratic Taiwan’s armed forces would repel an invasion from its neighbour. This move comes after China sent the fighter aircraft all over Taiwan which greatly increased diplomatic and military tensions in the region. In response, Taipei also warned the Air Force of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) through its jet.Apparently, China is appalled at the aid given to Taiwan by the United States. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian has said that the US should end its military ties with Taiwan. He said that the cancellation of the deal would n

China’s aggressive expansion of territorial claims may provoke future clash with US

By pressing its territorial claims aggressively from the Himalayas to the South China Sea, China may be raising possibilities of additional deadly clashes with the United States in the near future.China's military encroached upon its neighbours' territories on several fronts throughout the spring and now into summer, Beijing is flexing its military might in ways that have raised alarms across Asia and in Washington. For instance, in the same week of an escalating clash with Indian soldiers in Eastern Ladakh, China sent one of its submarines into the waters near Japan. Chinese fighter jets and at least one bomber buzzed Taiwan's territorial airspace almost daily.China's military assertiveness reflects a growing sense of confidence and capability, but also one of confrontation, particularly w...

CCP using pandemic as cover for expansionist agenda

As coronavirus continues to threaten millions of lives across the world, there has been plenty of discussion among China observers about how the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has sought to use the pandemic to its advantage.Would the CCP use the country's control of a large proportion of the medical supplies market to hold the world to ransom over personal protective equipment (PPE)? Will it miraculously discover a vaccine sold to the world at a sky-high price, while simultaneously claiming credit for vanquishing the disease? The answer is simple and much more serious. The pandemic has provided the perfect cover for Xi Jinping’s regime to pursue its expansionist agenda more aggressively than ever before. The Communist Party’s National People’s Congress recently passed a controversial piece of

Hong Kongers flee to other countries fearing persecution as China pushes national security law

With China all set to implement its draconian national security law on Hong Kong, the residents are making preparations to flee to Taiwan and other countries fearing persecution.According to reports, since last year, the number of applications for police certificates required to migrate to some other country has soared almost 80 per cent to nearly 21,000 in the latter half of 2019 from a year earlier. The protesters fearing persecution are also seeking refuge in Germany, the Netherlands and the United States.“You don’t know what they can accuse you of under the new law…Would joining a strike be considered a subversion of state?” Ho, a nurse at a hospital rehabilitation ward in Hong Kong said. She had joined a protest urging the pro-China government to close it borders with China amid coronav

Tibet, Taiwan key in reforming India policies towards China: Experts

Amidst the stand-off between India and China on the Line of Actual Control (LAC), strategic experts and intellectuals said that to counter Xi Jinping’s ‘One China Policy’, India should support Tibet and Taiwan, and give Dalai Lama more visibility in India’s political circles.“India should be supporting Tibet and try that the Dalai Lama should be given a higher position and more visibility in India’s political circles. Along with this, we must begin economic and technological engagements with Taiwan, besides supporting it politically,” Director of Vivekananda International Foundation Dr. Arvind Gupta said.He was speaking at webinar titled, "Revisiting One China policy: Economic and Political Options for India: Hong Kong, Tibet, Taiwan, and Xinjiang" jointly organized by the Law and Society

Counter China on all fronts, not just on borders, say experts

As tensions continue to rise between India and China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), Indian strategists and experts said that India needs to build up its own capabilities in order to counter China on all fronts and not just on the border.“The tensions between the US and China will certainly either put us in a sweet or in a delicate position in the time to come. India needs to build up its own capabilities in countering China – not just on the border, but we need to take them on all other fronts,” President of Centre for China Analysis and Strategy Jayadeva Ranade said.He was speaking at webinar titled, "Revisiting One China policy: Economic and Political Options for India: Hong Kong, Tibet, Taiwan, and Xinjiang" jointly organized by the Law and Society Alliance and Defense Capital
