Amid economic and security worries, Japan will enlist Taiwan chipmaker TSMC’s assistance to revolutionize its semiconductor industry.

Japan will invest heavily in producing cutting-edge semiconductors, and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company will establish a second facility there.
According to analysts, post-Covid development must include the Ukraine War and the Tension in Taiwan since they might result in the island’s chip supply being cut off.

With some help from Taiwan, Japan intends to heavily invest in its semiconductor industry in order to restore its local industry. Analysts predict that the upcoming “revolution” will differ from the previous one in that Tokyo is eager to form partnerships with foreign governments and businesses, including European companies, while Japanese companies use their cutting-edge technology to produce niche chips, the tiny bundle of circuits that perform specific functions in the electronic devices used by billions.

Even before the company’s first factory in the prefecture is finished, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, the biggest contract chip manufacturer in the world, revealed plans to establish a second plant in Kumamoto, southern Japan, on Tuesday.
