Is China losing faith in its own troops?

In August, a rather strange visit took place in the shadow of the Himalayas. Wang Yi, China’s foreign minister visited Tibet Military District and surrounding areas on August 14, and met with the top Communist Party official in Tibet, Wu Yingjie, as well as the chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) government, Qizhala. Before commenting on the nature and implications of the visit, it is important to understand briefly the major reasons why politicians visit any province. Even in China which abhors conventional democratic politics, the mechanics of politics that equate to grabbing, and holding on to power, are the same. There are three major reasons why a politician may visit an area: if it is a campaign season, a home province or to motivate the local population during times of disas

Nepal govt’s links with China affecting its autonomy: Report

A recent report has raised concerns that China’s nexus with the top establishment in the Nepal government has raised doubts over the KP Oli government’s autonomy and ability to take independent decisions. The foreign policy of the Himalayan nation is the latest entrant to fall victim to China's strategic expansionism. In January 2019, the day when China condemned United States' move to slap economic sanctions on Venezuela, the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) also issued a similar statement denouncing Washington and its allies. This was probably the first time Kathmandu had taken a stand pertaining to US policies in Latin America.Another worrying trend noticed in Nepal is the deteriorating human rights condition of Tibetan refugees residing in Nepal. Nepal shares a long border with Tibet a

With the construction of Ram Mandir beginning in Ayodhya, Nepal’s tourism is expected to spike in Janakpur- the birthplace of Sita, which became a part of the Ramayana Circuit in 2018.Devotees, coming to Ayodhya, would have Janakpur as one of the spots in their pilgrimage- boosting the economy of the region by giving more employment opportunities to the people of Nepal."As Janakpur is already included in Ramayana Circuit, the temple construction will attract a greater number of tourists here. After visiting the temple at Ayodhya people would like to visit the house of Mata Janaki. This will boost the tourism sector of our place," said Sushil Karna, a social activist from Janakpur."It is a matter of pride for Hindus around the world as a Ram Temple is being built in Ayodhya, the birthplace

Hegemony, not territory is China’s goal

China’s incessant aggressive behaviour in recent times have been raising question. It is fighting with India in the highlands of Ladakh. It has introduced a new security law for Hong Kong that eliminates basic civil rights. Chinese military jets are flying into Taiwan’s air defense space. It has raised a border conflict with Bhutan in a specific area. The sinking of a Vietnamese fishing boat in the South China Sea. It is caught up in territorial disputes in the same maritime area with not only Vietnam, the Philippines and Malaysia but also Indonesia. China is also meddling in Australia’s domestic politics, for the first time giving rise to critical voices against China in a country which until now has been extremely reluctant to criticize its most important trading partner. Is China shootin

So in 2017, you have Doklam incident that borders Sikkim and Bhutan, and then now you have Ladakh. This is all part of the grand, long term expansionist strategy which they had and are impl...
