Indian government should make Tibet one of the key issues in its policies on China: Lobsang Sangay

In view of the current situation between India and China, President of the Tibetan government in exile Lobsang Sangay has said that the Indian government should make Tibet one of the core issues in its policies due to its “historical, geopolitical, cultural and ecological” significance.“The issue of Tibet is at the core of ongoing India’s border tensions with China. It was only after Chinese illegal occupation of Tibet in 1959 that India and China came to share the now-disputed border,” said Sangay while explaining the significance of Tibet in the Sino-Indian boundary dispute. He further explained Chairman Mao Zedong’s expansionist strategy from the 1950s and said that   China’s aggression along the border in 2020 “is the continuation of its strategy from Mao Zedong’s time to occupy Tibet a

China under Xi stepped up “aggressive” foreign policy towards India: Report

A recent report released by a US Congress appointed commission has said that under President Xi Jinping, China stepped up its "aggressive" foreign policy toward India and "resisted" efforts to clarify the Line of Actual Control (LAC) that prevented a lasting peace from being realized.“Under General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Xi Jinping, Beijing has stepped up its aggressive foreign policy toward New Delhi. Since 2013, China has engaged in five major altercations with India along the Line of Actual Control (LAC),” said a brief issued by US-China Economic and Security Review Commission. The armies of India and China have been locked in a standoff at multiple locations in eastern Ladakh since May, and the tension escalated after 20 Indian soldiers were killed in a violent c

China using covid-19 pandemic to become world’s leading superpower: Veteran journalist

Veteran Swedish journalist and Myanmar analyst Bertil Lintner has said that while the rest of the world is preoccupied with the Covid-19 outbreak, China is “taking advantage” of the chaos in the Indo-Pacific region with a new security law in Hong Kong, border clashes with India, confrontations in the South China Sea, and by using the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) to become world’s leading superpower. In an interview, Lintner, also the author of several books on Myanmar shared his perspective on Beijing’s ambitions and what they mean for conflict and development in the region. He said that it is now “obvious that China is taking advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic”.“While the rest of the world is preoccupied with its own, internal problems, China is flexing its muscles in the Indo-Pacific reg

China’s actions in Ladakh part of country’s large-scale military provocations against neighbors: US lawmaker

US lawmaker Ted Yoho has said that China's aggression in eastern Ladakh is part of its large-scale military provocations against its neighbors and the US will not stand for “unprovoked, premeditated military action” for intimidating peaceful nations into submission.“China's actions towards India fall in line with a larger trend of the Communist Party of China using the confusion of the COVID-19 pandemic as a cover to launch large scale military provocations against its neighbours in the region, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Vietnam,” Yoho said.He asserted that now is the time for the world to come together and tell China that enough is enough. In a tweet, the Republican lawmaker said that the US will not stand for “unprovoked, premeditated military action for the purpose of antagonising

China violated Panchsheel agreement on several occasions: Tibetan Youth Congress chief

The chief of Tibetan Youth Congress, Gonpo Dhondup has accused Beijing of betraying New Delhi on several occasions despite having signed the Panchsheel Agreement in 1954."Former Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru visited China and signed the Panchsheel Treaty (The Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence). India has maintained friendly relations with China, but China is betraying India globally. After the Panchsheel Treaty, there was a war in 1962. And despite the dialogue there was another war in 1967 and there is a continuing war in 1975," Dhondup said.He said that India should not trust China, especially the Asian country's Communist regime."What China does is, first they encroach 20-30 kms of the territory and after continuous dialogue they step back 2-3 kms. So, they have already i...

China tries to pacify kin of unsung PLA soldiers killed in LAC face-off

In a failed attempt to please its citizens, China on June 22 attempted to pacify the aggrieved families of the Chinese soldiers killed in clashes with Indian troops along the disputed Line of Actual Control (LAC), without any official recognition from Beijing.Hu Xijin, editor of Global Times, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) regime’s mouthpiece, wrote that “the dead have been treated with the highest respect in the military, and that information will eventually be reported to society at the right time, so that heroes can be honored and remembered as they deserve”.The editorial came two days after a video emerged from China showing that the families of People’s Liberation Army (PLA) personnel were outraged by the fact that unlike Indian soldiers, their martyrs had received no honour and no

India’s diplomatic, military ties with allies will help countering China, say defense experts

As tensions continue to escalate between India and China following the brutal face-off at Galwan Valley in Ladakh, defense experts have called on the Indian government to strengthen diplomatic and military ties, especially maritime ties, with its allies. In a webinar organised by the Hudson Institute, an American think-tank, experts discussed about how the recent skirmishes connect to China’s attempts at strengthening its global posture in the wake of its power grabs in Hong Kong, its economic threats toward Australia, and its growing belligerence toward South East Asia, Japan, and Taiwan.Patrick M. Cronin, Asia-Pacific Security Chair of Hudson Institute believes that either China is taking an advantage of Covid-19 pandemic and the upcoming elections in the United States or President Xi is

Beijing suffers light casualties in China-India border skirmish but keeps quiet to avoid conflict escalation

The incident on June 15 in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed and at least 76 injured along the contested border in the western Himalayas was “entirely the responsibility of India”, a spokesman for China’s defence ministry said in a press conference on June 24.Beijing has been reluctant to comment publicly on any casualties from the incident.Sources said that Chinese soldiers received only “light injuries” during the skirmish with Indian soldiers in the Galwan Valley. On June 23, foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian dismissed as “fake news” Indian media reports which claimed 40 Chinese soldiers had been killed.Three separate sources said that only a small number of PLA officers were injured during the brawl. They did not give a definite number, but said China’s casualty count was much l

Deterrent message to China

No matter what the opposition says, the satellite imagery has shown that what happened at Galwan valley on June 15, was a fairly deep incursion into the Chinese side of the LAC in order to force the demolition of a dam. It was in fact a calculated escalation by the Indian side in 50 years. The picture across the Ladakh front show us three clear but separate actions – aggressive action in Galwan to prevent the weaponisation of water; proactive construction in Gogra to cut off Chinese patrols and a formalization of the status quo in Pangong that has been fait accompli at least since 1999.Most crucial is what happened in Galwan. By June 2, satellite imagery had revealed an obstruction on the Galwan River, 650 to 700 m on the Chinese side of the LAC where the river runs south to the north till
