Following a meeting between senior Chinese diplomat Wang Yi and NSA Ajit Doval in Johannesburg two days ago, the Chinese foreign ministry said that Xi and Modi had established a “important consensus” on stabilizing bilateral relations during their contact on the fringes of the G20 Summit in November.

“At the conclusion of that dinner hosted by the Indonesian President during the Bali G20 summit last year, the prime minister and President Xi Jinping exchanged courtesies and spoke of the need to stabilize our bilateral relations,” Bagchi added.

He said, “As you know, we have always maintained that the key to settlement of the whole problem is to address the situation along the LAC (Line of Actual Control) on the Western sector of India-China boundary and to restore peace and tranquility in the border regions.
