Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Sky Running Association, in collaboration with Foreshore Athletes organized a thrilling, high-altitude ‘Sky Running Championship’ on Wednesday where participants covered a total of seven kilometers from Astanmarg to Paragliding point to and fro.
The running was flagged off by SP city east Sheema Nabi Qasba along with SHO Harwan Mohd Ayoub Rather. Athletes from valley’s prominent club associations, especially Foreshore Athletes, Jammu and Kashmir Mountain Biking Association, Jammu and Kashmir Mountaineering and Hiking Club, and Jammu and Kashmir Adventure Sports Club, took part in the championship.
In the tournament, Umar Farooq got the first position while Gulbadin Hikmatyar and Muzamil Hussain Mir achieved the second and third positions, respectively. Riyaz Ahmad finished fourth and Sajad Hussain took the fifth position.
Kashmir’s Tourism Director, Nissar Ahmad Wani, was present as the chief guest on the valedictory function. Speaking on the occasion, Wani appreciated the efforts of the organizers and vowed his full support towards Sky Running as an adventure sport and committed to conduct similar events at Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Yousmarg.
“Valley’s athletes are second to none and every time they proved their metal at domestic as well as at international level,” Wani said.
Earlier, J&K Sky Running Association’s Secretary Bashir Ahmad, thanked the chief guests for their support and sponsorship.
The winners of the tournament will be promoted to participate in National and International sky running events in future.
Prominent figures like Syed Tahir (JKHMC), Sajad Kralyari (JKASC) Riyaz Wani (JKMBA), Tahir Ahmad (Athletic Coach), Yawar Zaib (TAAK), Haji Ashiq (YN), Nasir Baktoo (HBOA), and Mudasir Ahmad (Foreshore Athletes) were present on the occasion.
