In the Maldives, where India has extensively invested to stave off Beijing, New Delhi's dominance is in dire jeopardy. The largely Muslim archipelago represents an exceptional accomplishment for Indian neighborhood diplomacy, in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi, no less, has personally played a major role by developing a friendship with his counterpart, making the situation all the more difficult.
