Pattaya has invested 166 million baht to refurbish a 2.7km-long beachfront footpath, from North to South Pattaya.
Pattaya City awarded the project to Nong Nooch Landscape and Garden Design Company, an affiliate of the well-known Nongnooch Garden in Pattaya, for the 820-day project.
The plan is to expand the road along the beach by converting the 3m-wide footpath to accommodate parking. The new footpath will be 11m wide. New facilities will be added such as children’s playgrounds and areas for exercising equipment.
Last week, shady Indian almond trees were removed to pave the way for road expansion. The trees will be replaced by palm families including coconut and date palms.
However, locals voiced their concern over the removal of the old Indian almond trees citing that those trees gave more shade to beachgoers than palms will. Pattaya mayor Sontaya Khunpluem later announced that some of the Indian almond trees will be replanted and the footpath will have more variety of trees.
The Pattaya beach revamp project is expected to complete in May 2023.
Highway 3 in Trat set to be expanded
The Highway Department has invested 985 million baht to expand the last 23.4km section of Highway 3 (Sukhumvit Road) from Ban Mai Rud to Ban Klong Chak in Trat.
The project is part of the Trat-Hat Lek road expansion to support the government’s Eastern Economic Corridor.
The road will be upgraded from two to four lanes with an asphalt concrete surface. The project is scheduled to be completed in November. The department expects that the road expansion will facilitate logistics and tourism between Thailand and Cambodia in the future.
