Paying respect to revered monks

To mark Asanha Bucha Day and Buddhist Lent which this year coincide with the 150th birthday anniversary of Phra Ajarn Mun Bhuridatta Mahathera, Seacon Bangkae is holding the “Khao Phansa Maha Mongkhol: 150 Years of Luang Pu Mun” at its Main Atrium zone on the 1st floor, from tomorrow July 3 to July 12.

This is a rare opportunity to worship the world’s only white jade replica statue of the venerated monk who has been recognised by Unesco as an “important figure” in promoting world peace.

His relics and hairs will be exhibited alongside his requisites on loan from the museum at Wat Pa Sutthawas Temple in Sakon Nakhon where he was the abbot and passed away.

The replica statues of many other revered monks who were Luang Pu Mun’s disciples will also be brought to the event for Buddhist faithful to pay respect to. They include Luang Pu Fan Ajaro, Luang Pu Tesk Tesrangsi and Luang Ta Maha Bua.

Visitors can learn more about the life of Luang Pu Mun in an exhibition. Meanwhile, donation money will go to support the founding of the Luang Pu Man Bhuridatta Institute of Liver Disease in Khon Kaen.

Temporarily housed at the event as the main Buddha statue will be the replica statue of Luang Por Phra Sai from Wat Pho Chai in Nong Khai province.

Visitors are invited to join the traditional candle-lit circumambulation ceremony to pay homage to Lord Buddha and also try the touch-less Chinese fortune sticks. More than 50 shops will be selling local handicrafts and Isan food.
